About House of Miriam-New Jersey

House of Miriam NJ’s (HOM-NJ) is dedicated to empowering youth and fostering a culture of excellence to nurture the leaders of tomorrow. Through innovative academic enrichment programs and strategic community partnerships, the organization provides culturally competent support that engages families and inspires a lifelong love of learning. HOM-NJ’s vision is a future where every young person is empowered to achieve their highest potential, lead with purpose, and strengthen their community.

HOM-NJ was founded in 2021 in honor of Miriam Simon, a staunch advocate for social justice. Recognizing that local leaders are best positioned to address the needs of their communities, HOM-NJ identifies and partners with exemplary community-based organizations that are providing critical programming in under-resourced communities.

HOM-NJ’s first partnership was with the Krumville School House, a small non-profit serving families living in Ulster County, New York. HOM worked closely with Krumville School House to create and implement arts and education programs for the community.

Since 2023, HOM-NJ has worked with the Thirteenth Avenue School in Newark, New Jersey. Through this collaboration, HOM-NJ has supported the Thirteenth Avenue School in the following ways:

  • Sustaining its community garden

  • Stocking the school’s food pantry

  • Providing after school yoga instruction for youth in grades pre-K through 2nd

  • Providing supplies to support after school program activities

  • Hosting parent engagement activities

  • Hosting a Freedom School Program

  • …and more!
